Clear, practical guides for writing, compiling, and sharing LaTeX and Typst projects.
Read and navigate the PDF
Zoom, search, jump between the PDF and the source, and print or download the result.
Zoom and lay out the pages
The PDF pane's toolbar controls how the pages are sized and arranged; none of it changes the document.
How to do it
- Open the Zoom menu and choose Fit width, Fit height, Fit page or Fit content width, or a fixed percentage from 50% to 200%.
- Use Zoom in and Zoom out for smaller steps.
- Use Page layout in the toolbar to choose Single page, Two pages, or Two pages, first page alone.
- When a page is sideways, use Rotate clockwise in the toolbar, or right-click the PDF for Rotate counterclockwise. In a narrow pane these controls move into More PDF actions.
- Choose Use graphite reading theme for a darker page, and Use original PDF colours to switch back.
With focus in the PDF, + and - zoom in and out, and 0 fits the width.
Find text and move around
Search works on the PDF's own text, and any spot on a page is connected to the source line that produced it: by SyncTeX for LaTeX, by the compiler itself for Typst.
How to do it
- Click in the PDF and press the Find shortcut below to open Find in PDF, then type; use Previous match and Next match to step through the results.
- Open the search options to turn on Highlight all, Match case, Whole words or Regular expression.
- Type a number in the page box to go to that page, or use Previous page and Next page.
- Click a link inside the PDF to follow it, then choose Go back in PDF to return to where you were.
- Double-click anywhere in the compiled PDF to jump to its source line, or right-click and choose Jump to source.
- Select text in the PDF, right-click and choose Search PDF for selection to find it elsewhere.
With focus in the PDF, CtrlF opens Find in PDF and CtrlJ jumps to the source from the selected text or the middle of the view. In the editor, CtrlJ jumps from the cursor to the PDF.
Comments, printing and downloading
The compiled PDF shows where the project's comment threads are, and it can leave the editor as a file or on paper.
How to do it
- Choose Hide comments in the toolbar to read without the comment markers, and Show comments to bring them back.
- Select text in the PDF, right-click and choose Add comment to start a thread from what you are reading.
- Right-click and choose Copy to copy the selected text.
- Right-click and choose Print PDF or Download PDF.
- Choose Open PDF in Browser Tab to give the PDF a tab of its own, for a second screen.
Open a password-protected PDF
A PDF file stored in the project opens in the same viewer, including one that needs a password.
How to do it
- Open the PDF file from the Explorer.
- When the viewer says the PDF is password-protected, type its password and choose Open PDF.
- If it answers that the password is not correct, try again.
