Clear, practical guides for writing, compiling, and sharing LaTeX projects.
Use the LaTeX writing tools
Symbols, formula recognition, live math preview, spell check, and outline navigation.
Insert symbols and formulas
The sidebar carries the parts of LaTeX nobody memorizes, so you rarely have to leave the editor to look one up.
How to do it
- Open the Math Symbols section, search by name or browse a category, and select a symbol to insert it at the cursor.
- Use the image button in the Math Symbols heading to drop, upload, or paste one formula screenshot.
- Review and edit the recognized LaTeX and its rendered preview, choose an insertion format, then insert it at the cursor.
- Images are sent to the configured AI model for recognition. JointTex saves compressed screenshots and results in your per-project history (latest 50); you can delete entries individually.
See math and structure while you type
Two panels answer the questions that otherwise cost a compile: what does this formula look like, and where am I.
How to do it
- Keep the live math preview open to see a formula rendered as you type it.
- Expect an unusual glyph to load its font the first time it is needed, so the preview needs a connection.
- Use the Outline section to move between the sections of the open .tex file.
- Switch the Outline to the compiled PDF's structure when you want to navigate the document as a reader sees it.
Catch mistakes as you write
Spell check and completions work against the actual project, so they know your labels, your citation keys, and your terms.
How to do it
- Spell check underlines unknown words in an English document; a quick fix adds a word to the project dictionary, which is shared with everyone in the project.
- As you type, completions offer commands, environments, packages, labels, and citation keys.
- Hover a reference, macro, included image, or package name to preview it without opening another file.
- Go to a definition to jump to a label, macro, citation key, or a package's documentation PDF.
